Insect Factory
Air Traffic Control Sleep
Snowflakes

[Insect Factory, www.insectfields.org]

Insect Factory is a one-man show. Guitarist Jeff Barsky is a huge fan of the drone. This is evident from beginning to end on both of these releases.

Nearly 50 minute long "Air Traffic Control Sleep" is the more sleep inducing one in the bunch. In a scope of two long numbers [30 minutes and 13 minutes in length respectively], and one shorter one [5 minutes], he takes the listeners on a mesmerizing journey. This is a place where guitars are processed beyond the point of recognition, where drones are the order of the day. This is where a cool breeze caresses the listeners with the assurance of what is and what could be. The possibilities of the processed guitar are endless and the gentle currents created on the release point to an artist who has developed his craft in a meticulous fashion. He knows the way to move forward is to let go of the past, which is why there are no grand stances of over-the-top movements. Spooky in parts, and restful in others, this is music that requires as much attention as one allows. If one chooses to use it as background music, no harm done, the music still achieves its aim. Echo-filled drifts are still while the atmosphere is cool, without changing into a frozen state. At the end of it all, warmth prevails, and all is good in the world.

"Snowflakes" is a limited edition 3" CD-R, which was originally released on cassette. Barely fifteen minutes in duration, the music here is more involving than on "Air Traffic Control Sleep". Barsky's guitar dronescapes go off in a number of directions at once. Clear traces of actual guitar are heard, along with a mixture of individual strings being lightly touched. Caresses of warm ether infiltrate the music and the flow is very organic. Natural music for the green person living inside you, sounds on "Snowflakes" fall slowly and gracefully. Excellent work from someone whose work is definitely worth investigating.
